Whenever you decide that it’s time to work
on the pricing plan of your products and packages, you need to be able to cover
the cost of goods while still making some profit. Starting your own photography business will require some pricing knowledge. After all, money is one of the
reasons you became a photographer as well. Consider offering volume discounts
for those customers that make large orders, like a high number of prints. Coupon
codes and gift certificates are another cool mean for you to offer price
discounts to some of your loyal customers. Also consider offering discounts of
other advantages based on a referral system.
Always keep in mind that a promotion is
ideal for boosting short time sales once in a while. Even if you may not want
to position yourself in the mind of the consumer as that photographer who is
always lowering prices, you could offer a quick sale once per year, especially
on business anniversary occasions. Give them one week where there is a 25% discounts
on all types of shoots maybe or one free album when a certain number of albums
is ordered.
If you want some really nice advertising,
try considering some charity work as a photographer from time to time. Maybe photograph
some NGO event and get some nice exposure plus the chance to give out some
business cards and create new connections as well. Last, but not least, remember
that you should avoid listing the prices on your website. If you do, people
will make a comparison between you and other photographers based on price. Give
yourself the chance for a conversation and a meeting where you can expose some
of your work and thus justify your pricing instead of just having them read it
online.
